I like to think that I have read quite a few books in my lifetime. I know I plan to read many more books in my lifetime. I have noticed though, that young adult novels are distinctly different than non-young adult novels. I want to take a look at the two and highlight some of the differences and why I think they are both important. Personally, I don’t like to read a lot of YA novels, however YA novels seem to be a very large market.
The structure of a YA novel is decidedly different than that of most adult novels (or, non-YA novels). Why is that? I have found that most young adult novels have substantially small word counts, easy to comprehend language, and straightforward plots.
